Women's Basketball - Game Report

Hi Folks,

Just a single game to report on this week as we headed to Thunder Bay to take on the Lakehead Thunderwolves.  In a hard fought battle, we maintained our undefeated season, prevailing 68-61.  With the lower scoring, we have dropped to 2nd in the country in that department, while holding on to the 6th spot in the National Top 10 ranking (and 2nd on the OUA ranking).  We finish out our fall schedule at home this coming Saturday (December 3).

Queen’s 68 – Lakehead 61
We were a little slow out of the gates in this one, only connecting on 5 of 14 first quarter shots.  However, our defence was quite good, only surrendering 8 points to our 12.  The game opened up considerably in the second quarter, as we built on our 4-point lead, only to have Lakehead respond near half time to reduce the lead back to 4.  Each team finished with 21 in the quarter, giving us a 33 – 29 lead at the break.  Once again we built the lead to double digits in the third, and once again Lakehead answered back.  We outscored Lakehead 17-15 to take a 7-point lead into the fourth.  Once more we built a double digit lead, only to have Lakehead claw their way back, getting the margin to 3 points with 3 minutes to go.  We closed out the last 3 minutes well to win the quarter 18-17 and the game 68-61.  We were very much buoyed by the resurgence of our 3-point game, going 6 for 12 on the evening, but were held back by our turnovers – a whopping 28.  Marianne Alarie led all scorers with 22 points, while Abby Dixon had 14 points and 4 steals.  Veronika Lavergne came up big, especially in the fourth quarter, scoring 7 of her 11 points in the frame, to go along with 6 rebounds, and Andrea Priamo continued her solid play with 10 points and 8 boards.

Last call for our annual ID/Training Camp this Sunday, December 4th).  It will involve on-court sessions with the Q’s coaching staff from 9:30-11:45am and again 1:30-3:30pm, along with a facility tour and Q&A session in between.  It is intended for student athletes in Grades 10-12 who may have an interest in Queen’s down the road.  There is no cost for the Training Camp, but please drop me an email if you would like to attend, so I can prepare for the numbers.
